Interactive and Dynamic Mapping
Interactive mapping is where GIS meets the internet.
Combining server and client systems, the user can be presented with a dynamic or interactive map.
- Dynamic maps commonly overlay changing data over a static map background, allowing up-to-date information on location to be presented.
- Interactive maps put control over what data is displayed into the hand of the user. Scrolling, zooming and selecting what data is visible are just some of the possibilities.
Though web-GIS has traditionally been the domain of high-end GIS server software, with high license and maintenance costs, Macromedia Flash offers the perfect low-cost solution for simple interactive or dynamic maps.
