Conventional Mapping

A range of maps of one of the remotest and most rugged regions of the world including 1:40K, 1:100K, regional and global, to support the 2004 Unnamed-Unclimbed expedition to climb an un-named peak in the Kunlun Xian mountains of China's Xinjiang Province. Final maps supplied in pdf format for website use, A3/4 printing, and large-format 90" plotting.

Large format maps

An A1sized (800mm/32 inch) full colour overview map of Mongolia, with overlayed GPS points depicting the locations of photographs in the Sacred Landscapes of Mongolia Exhibition, London 2004.

Dynamic Maps

A zoomable flash-based dynamic map of the Jinpa Trust's 70+ projects in Yushu County, PRC.

Geodata is held in static .fla files, while project data is read using XML connectors from the orgisational database, allowing for easy future development.
The movie provides a central viewer for all project , as well as a user-friendly database interface to those projects.

Visualisations and Animations

A set of images and animations of Mount Kailas in Tibet.

Starting from a digitisation of a Soviet era 1:100K topographical map of the region, a Digital Elevation Model was built using Manifold 5.5, then rendered using both 3DEM and Terragen (left).
A sequence of 903 renders were animated into a 30 second flyby along the sacred 40 mile "Kora" around Kailas. Finally a VRWorld Kailas Explorer was built overlaying Landsat imagery on the DEM.

Atlas and Gazetteers

A trilingual atlas and gazetteer of Sershul County.

Bringing together Chinese, Tibetan and American data sources, this project produced the first detailed atlas, and the first English gazetteer of Sershul County, Sichuan Province. China.
